Visit to our Bee sponsoring stock

On June 3, 2018 we had something special: we paid a visit to our beehive in Wieselburg-land, for which we were allowed to take over last year.

First of all, beekeeper Mr. Hinteregger explained the breeding development and the life cycle of the bees, as well as their highly specialised tasks, using a blackboard. We learned of the difference between a male bee (drone) and a female, a winter and a summer bee, the existence and function of the Queen. However, we also talked about the threats of bees through disease and toxins, the decline of natural meadows and the difficult task of the beekeeper to maintain balance in the hive.

Finally, we were taught how to behave at the hive and each visitor received head veils and gloves. Then we opened the beehive together, where brood, honeycombs, drones (The thick Willi) and a honeycomb in egg-laying, in which the Queen had just laid their eggs, were shown exactly.

As a climax, we produced a bee-offshoot together by removing closed and an open clay and placing it in the new dwelling of the young bienenvolks (see orange Wooden box).

Mr. Hinteregger answered all our questions in detail, but also the bees showed a lot of patience, especially since the stick was kept open longer than usual by our visit.

The conclusion was a visit to the Schlosscafe in Wieselburg, where all sorts of interesting things about the beekeeper's crafts and their training were discussed. We thank Mr. Hinteregger and the bees for this nice and exciting afternoon!
